The Surprising Health Benefits of Regular Chiropractic Care Beyond Pain Relief

When most people think about a chiropractor, they think about their neck or back pain, headaches, even sciatica or leg pain.  Of course, chiropractors help people with these symptoms all the time, but these are not the only health concerns that a chiropractor can improve or affect.

What if I told you that regular chiropractic care can do so much more?

Here’s a little bit of information to help understand what a chiropractic adjustment actually does.  Chiropractic helps remove interference in the nervous system, allowing it to function better.  The nervous system is the master control center for the entire body, controlling functions of the skin, muscle, joints, organs, hormones, cells—actually, every single thing in the body.  Without communication from the brain through the spinal cord and nerves, nothing in the body would function properly—if at all.

Your nervous system health is vital to your overall health!

Removing the interference from the nervous system with a specific and gentle chiropractic adjustment improves its function.  In turn, the function of every single system in the body improves.  These issues can include but are not limited to, neck and back pain, headaches/migraines, carpal tunnel, and sciatica.  Chiropractors can also adjust more than just the spine.  Anywhere on the body that has a moveable joint can be adjusted.  This means chiropractors can adjust shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, ankles, and feet if necessary.  There are even chiropractors who adjust the sutures of the skull.

Not only that, but there can also be many secondary benefits of regular chiropractic care.  Because the adjustment balances the nervous system and encourages normal nerve function, other systems of the body benefit.  For example, patients sometimes see a decrease in anxiety.  Chiropractic adjustments can stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for that “Zen” attitude we all want to achieve.  The parasympathetic nervous system is also responsible for other bodily functions like digestion, sleep, regulating blood pressure, and controlling respiration and heart rhythm.  Each segment of the spine has nerves that come out and control certain areas of the body.  When all of these nerves are working optimally, all body systems work in better harmony. At this point, when people see their chiropractor, it’s because they want to keep functioning well, instead of always dealing with a problem (that’s what the MD is for 😉).  THAT is how to achieve optimal health.  And who doesn’t want that?
