Chiropractic History

Chiropractic History

Chiropractic care has been around for quite some time, helping to create a healthier life for people all over the world. Chiropractic has been continuously improved since it’s beginning to ensure that patients get the best care possible. Here’s what you should know about the history of this holistic form of health care.

The Story of Chiropractic History

The chiropractic profession dates to early 1895, when Dr. D.D. Palmer performed his first adjustment of the spine on Harvey Lillard, restoring his hearing. Dr. BJ Palmer, Dr D.D. Palmer’s son, was responsible for developing the philosophy and techniques of Chiropractic. He was also the first to define vertebral subluxation, which are misalignments of the spinal column that put pressure on the nerves, which can affect the body’s functions.

Dr. BJ Palmer’s wife, Mabel Heath Palmer, became the first female chiropractor in 1905, with her son David Palmer eventually following in the family’s footsteps.

Dr. D.D. Palmer founded the first school of chiropractic, which Dr. BJ Palmer ran until his death in 1962.  The research and dedication of the Palmer family paved the way for new chiropractic professionals to learn about this unique practice, which has brought health and healing to millions across the globe.

Today, chiropractic is the Chiropractic the largest drugless health profession and the second largest primary healthcare profession.

Benefits of Visiting the Chiropractor Today

Over the last 120 years, the practice of chiropractic has evolved for the better, as we have continued to learn more about the human body. Still, the core concept of this form of health care has remained the same: the body is self-healing and correcting the interference of that natural system can encourage that health.

Most commonly, people think of the chiropractor for headaches, neck/back pain, or big trauma like falls or car accidents.  Of course, people with these conditions can find relief.  If you were injured in a slip or fall, chiropractic care can help your body heal and restore proper function, getting you back to your daily activities more quickly.

However, chiropractic is so much more than that.  If you or your child have poor posture, regular corrective chiropractic care at Rising Chiropractic can help the body realign the spine, encouraging a more upright and balance posture.  People with chronic pain, mobility issues, auto-immune disease, and myriad other health conditions can also benefit from principled, corrective chiropractic care. This is because it helps the body restore proper function to every system, organ, tissue, and cell in the body.  Every person from pregnant women to athletes, from newborn to the elderly can benefit from this all-natural, holistic form of health care.

Because of the scientific advances in knowledge and technique, we at Rising Chiropractic are able to use gentle, low pressure adjusting techniques.  These techniques reduce impact on the body and lowers stress and apprehension while still producing consistent and positive results.

To experience true correction and begin experiencing optimal health and function, schedule your new practice member appointment at Rising Chiropractic today.
